Rita Clifton CBE is a portfolio chair and non-executive director of leading businesses and in the non-profit sector. She is also a writer, speaker and mentor. She graduated from Cambridge University and started her career in advertising. She then joined Interbrand, the leading global brand strategy consultancy, as London CEO and later became Chairman. Her non-executive board roles include Nationwide Building Society and Ascential plc, and previous private sector boards have included ASOS plc, Bupa, Dixons Retail plc and as Chair of Populus, the opinion pollster and research company. In 2013, she co-founded and chaired the global business consultancy BrandCap, which is now part of the Populus Group and has offices in New York and Hong Kong.

Rita has had a lifelong commitment to the sustainability agenda, and pro bono board roles have included being a Trustee and now Fellow of WWF-UK, a member of the UK Government’s Sustainable Development Commission, a Trustee of Green Alliance and as Chair of The Conservation Volunteers, the pioneers of Green Gym. 

She has worked with many leading businesses and organisations around the world as well as start-ups and growth stage businesses, and speaks on all aspects of brand strategy, sustainability and business leadership. She is a regular commentator in all the major TV, news and social channels and her writing has included the best-selling book ‘The Future of Brands’, The Economist book ‘Brands & Branding’ and most recently the new leadership book ‘Love Your Imposter’, which was endorsed by Hillary Clinton. She has sat on the advisory board for the Judge Business School in Cambridge and last year was appointed a Visiting Fellow at Oxford University’s Saïd Business School. 

In the 2014 New Year’s Honours List, Rita was awarded a CBE for services to the creative industries.
