Future of Sustainability 2020: How can we harness the radical disruption presented by the COVID-19 crisis to drive a truly sustainable, just and resilient future?

8 July 2020

The COVID-19 crisis is having a devastating impact – both in terms of lives lost and economic disruption. At Forum for the Future, we believe that it would be tragic to go back to yesterday’s “business-as-usual”; moments of radical disruption like this provide unprecedented opportunities to reinvent the future. We are therefore calling for business, governments, civil society and communities to seize this moment in helping to deliver a more just, sustainable and resilient world.

Drawing on research and insights we are gathering as part of our annual exercise to understand where next for sustainability we will share a suite of futures trajectories we have been developing which help us understand possible ways forward from this point in time, based on signals we are seeing that suggest different mindsets that are currently in play.  These trajectories will add to a set of dynamic areas we had already identified for the decade ahead and form the basis of  our Future of Sustainability 2020 report. We will be using this webinar to focus on the Transform trajectory, which we believe has the potential to create a world that is truly regenerative, a world where ambition levels for sustainability are much higher than today, with business putting more back into the environment and society than it takes out. You can read more about the trajectories here.

Join this webinar to understand and discuss:

  • how can we use futures trajectories to understand the effect of the decisions we make today on shaping the future?
  • how has the pandemic affected organisational business decisions and sustainability ambitions?
  • what is the role of organisations in creating a transformed economy as we emerge from this crisis?
  • how can we all play a role in making the Transform trajectory a reality?
