Why work at Forum?

We do our best to make Forum for the Future a great place to work.

We're proud to be the Third Sector Best Charity Employer for 2007, and our annual staff survey consistently reports that staff satisfaction is above 80%. Some of the things that helped put us in that position are:

  • Our benefits. We offer generous holiday, sick pay and family leave provisions, with maternity pay well above the statutory minimum. We pay 6% of salary into your pension plan. We have a life assurance policy for all permanent staff to sign up to. We offer salary sacrifice options so that you can obtain child care vouchers, bicycles and pension contributions in the most tax-effective way. After four years at the Forum, you will be eligible to take a three-month sabbatical.
  • Our approach to your development. We have a regular cycle of core skill courses that are offered at four “learning days” throughout the year. Twice a year, the whole organisation gets together to share what we have learned, have some laughs, and renew our common commitment. More informal knowledge-sharing takes place through our “Brown-bag Lunch” and “Little Grey Cells” events.
  • Our flexibility. We try to accommodate any requests to work part-time, work at home, or work flexible hours, as long as it is operationally feasible. This flexibility extends across all staff, whether or not you are a carer and regardless of your position in the organisation.
  • Our values. We make a real effort to live by our values of commitment, respect, cooperation & learning, openness and fun. On our annual staff survey, fun is usually the one that ranks the highest! In 2011 our honorary value of the year is "Focus".

Having said all that, what really matters is the opinion of our own staff. Here’s what they said in our most recent staff survey:

“Forum is one of the friendliest environments I have worked in.”

“Respect is given to everyone’s opinion - there always appears to be the chance to 'have your say'."

“There is no doubt at all that everyone at Forum is working together towards the shared aim of a more sustainable world.”

“In the last six months I have received more training than six years in my former job. I'm grateful to be part of an organisation that values its employees and recognises the value of investing in their skills.”

“We're not perfect, but still so much better than anywhere else I have worked.”

Forum for the Future welcomes applicants from a variety of backgrounds. Forum is committed to the successful development of an equal opportunities policy in relation to the recruitment and selection of all staff. To assist in the implementation and monitoring of this policy, applicants for all posts with Forum for the Future are asked to complete an equal opportunities form. This document will be kept separate from applications and the information provided will be treated in the strictest confidence and will not be available to members of the appointment panel. If applicants decide not to fill out the form, it will have no bearing on their application.
