A webinar for local authorities on why community energy could be key to your future climate response plans

Wednesday, 4 December at 12:00pm

There is now widespread recognition of the need to put people at the centre of the climate change movement and signs of hope that this is possible: millions are marching across the world in support of urgent climate action and we’re seeing people-led, innovative solutions at local, national and international scale.

But what can local authorities do to respond to their communities' concerns about climate change?

One solution is Forum for the Future's PowerPaired initiative which – with support from the players of People’s Postcode Lottery – aims to support more local authorities to partner with community energy groups to develop renewable energy and energy saving projects. These projects empower communities to play their part in shaping a new zero carbon energy system, allow local authorities to deliver on their zero carbon ambitions at no capital cost and create a positive social impact.

Join this webinar for an introduction to the PowerPaired tool – and find out how it can 'matchmake' you, as the owner of potentially viable land and buildings, with community energy groups. We'll also explain why supporting community energy is something you should be implementing as part of your Climate Emergency or energy strategy and how the platform can support you.

You'll hear directly from a local authority about their experiences as well as other leaders in this space that have expertise and support to share, and there'll also be the chance to for us to answer any questions you have.

Speakers include:

Rebecca Lawson, PowerPaired project lead at Forum for the Future

Andy Hunt, Green Oldham Lead, Oldham Council
