Background

I’m leading the development and growth of our networks, including the evolution of our partnerships and the creation of platforms we need to exchange great ideas and collaborate on cutting edge work. If that wasn’t enough, I have an on-going role in the delivery of projects in the energy system!

Early on in my career, I realised I wasn’t quite cut out to crawl around condemned Victorian buildings looking for blue asbestos, or conduct site investigations on contaminated sites in East Kilbride during a snowstorm. So, after four years in consultancy I literally jumped at the chance to get a job in a warm office in Westminster! Taking on a project management and research role with CIRIA, I oversaw the growth of a number of knowledge sharing networks and the creation of numerous sector guides on sustainable design and construction.
During the course of this work, I was regularly coming into contact with graduates of Forum’s Masters programme, and was blown away by their knowledge, commitment and leadership within what was then a very conservative industry. I (still) believe Forum’s work with the leaders of tomorrow is one of its greatest contributions, and so there was no surprise when I joined the team in 2005, with a remit to develop our partnerships and projects in the built environment field.

My dream project? Still working on that one – watch this space….

What floats my boat outside work? Being Welsh, this has to be watching Wales in the Six Nations (this interest also requires a heavy dose of undue optimism). I also enjoy playing with the round ball, and as long as the knees stay sound, hiking and running. I’m also starting to create the space and time to revive a teenage passion for sketching and painting, although I’m not quite ready for the Louvre just yet.
