Sectors : Energy,
I am part of the Energy team and programme manager for e21C (Engineers of the 21st Century). I manage some our built environment partnerships and – through e21C - set up collaborative research projects in the engineering sector.
After finishing a Masters in Resource Management I worked in New Zealand for three years doing some environmental science in various roles. I quickly realized that a lab coat and safety glasses didn’t suit me, and moved from a research institute into the water industry to become an Environmental Planner. Site visits were a strong theme of this role and I regularly found myself climbing through ditches and wild bush to find an outfall or even taking the odd helicopter trip to advise on new pipelines. Coming back to reality and the UK, I continued in the water industry in Scotland, gaining a frontline understanding of how the construction industry works on big framework contracts. Being involved in up to 50 development projects at any one time and being continually on call to contractors got to be quite tiring, and my desire to work on the bigger picture finally led me to Forum. For the last four years here, I have been running the e21C programme and working with some of the UK’s top contractors, setting up some challenging projects and having fun working with some enthusiastic engineers.
My dream project? Helping a local community set up a ‘warm homes’ energy contract, testing out new tariffs based around comfort and daylight, rather than kwh.
What floats my boat outside work? Big mountains – with or without snow and big beaches – preferably windy. Hiking long trails with our dog, and colouring in with my nieces.
