It’s my aim to make sure that the huge amount of brainpower and innovative thinking at Forum reaches its fullest potential in practice. The first step to this is understanding. So I work alongside our project teams to communicate our work to the outside world and the partners we collaborate with in stimulating and challenging ways. This includes everything from helping write Futures scenarios to translating our expertise to media.
Before Forum, I worked for a communications agency that specialized in positive social and environmental issues. My client base was broad, but I was lucky enough to work on sustainability issues with clients such as the National Trust, Defra and Solarcentury. My work ranged from mass PR campaigns to regional integrated behaviour change projects.
Prior to this, there was a stint as a researcher for an executive search company which specialised in FTSE top 50 companies. Working with big business was a useful insight into how the corporate world operates. I also spent a year on the food desk of the Sunday Telegraph’s Stella magazine, where I grew my passion for food; this led to questions about where our produce comes from, how I could eat responsibly, and why our relationship with food is so important.
In fact, my first encounter with Forum was around this time, when I went to meet Martin Wright about being involved with Green Futures magazine. It sadly came to nothing – apart from making me more determined to join Forum one day!
My dream project? Collaborating with a global food leader to re-imagine how their systems might be adapted to align fully with the interconnectedness of health, food and sustainability – and then watching them make the necessary changes.
What floats my boat outside work? I’m a bookworm, an enthusiastic cook, and a budding guitar player. And I definitely go through exercise fads. The current mini-obsession is running (towards a half-marathon); the last was flying trapeze. The ones that have stayed with me so far are cycling, swimming and long, long walks – preferably around new places.
