Head, Forum for the Future SE Asia
My work at Forum is focused on leading our emerging South East Asia practice. I develop and lead key strategic work with corporate partners in the region, including strategic sustainability advice to board-level leadership at Sime Darby, and ambitious futures-into-strategy initiatives with Swire Pacific Offshore and China Navigation Company.
I am also a futures specialist at Forum, and run many of our ambitious scenario-planning and visioning projects, including Dairy 2020, the flagship UK dairy sector sustainability initiative. I lead multi-stakeholder and company workshops and dialogues on sustainability topics, and develops Forum’s sustainability thought leadership work, such as The Sustainable Economy Framework (SEF) - a practical, applied sustainability methodology developed in partnership with Aviva Investors and the UK’s Technology Strategy Board.
The desire to use my skills and expertise in a more strategic, and more applied way brought me to Forum. So much goes on in the sustainability space these days, but so few organisations are creating change in such an ambitious, practical, and fun way as Forum does!
I started my career at IBM doing business controls in the post-Enron era. But it turned out this wasn’t quite my cup of tea. I knew at that point that I wanted to work with business, but in a way that married my interest in enterprise with my passion for sustainability. Not audit, in other words! I was doing the research for my Masters dissertation on the role of the private sector in post-conflict development and I took on an internship at SustainAbility in order to explore new areas of the field. Et voila - some five years later I am still really passionate about the issues and the many interesting projects!
My dream project? Working in a cross-sectoral partnership to develop a product or service which helps addresses the nutrition needs of low income communities in emerging markets.
What floats my boat outside work? Food! Whether that’s cooking it, eating it or thinking about its importance for the sustainability agenda. I am also an avid urban cyclist. And I love checking out London’s many markets on the weekend.
