I have the most fun role at Forum. Well, I think so anyway. It’s my job to embed creative thinking into the work we do and how we communicate it. I work in the Systems Innovation & Communications team and the Networks & Partnerships team.
I’m what you call an edge walker. Not to be confused with a night walker, which basically means that I happily tread around the edges of Forum – one eye looking in and being involved in all the wonderful work we create, and the other firmly gazing outwards, scanning the horizon for new, brave, creative and alternative ways of doing things. Needless to say, Forum isn’t my only home. I work as an actress in theatre, TV, film and radio and I also run my own site-specific theatre company called Kilter (www.kiltertheatre.org).
It was theatre that brought me to Forum. Acting can be a strange and vacuous profession at times. I started to make work and write plays with sustainability at their heart (through story and production values) but I wanted to do more and create real change. And so I came to Forum. I started as a junior admin assistant and soon realized that creative communications was my calling. It’s not all that different to acting really – turning real life work into compelling stories and finding the most inspiring way to tell them. I co-managed our Farming Futures project for which we won a Global Green Award and Climate Week award for Best Campaign.
See, I told you, the best job.
My dream project? The Blair Witch Project meets The Supersizers Eat Sustainability. I’d like to take some of the major CEOs in the food, finance and energy sectors on an emotional reconnection journey. Equip them with hand held cameras to record the fun and give them Challenge Anneke-esque tasks to do with sustainability.
What floats my boat outside work? Cake, stationery (serious fetish), Mad Men, alternative theatre, cinema and fresh air – you can never get enough of it.
