Fit for the Future Healthcare Programme

The Fit for the Future Healthcare Programme wants to find sensible yet radical responses to health budget cuts that shift healthcare onto a more sustainable footing.

Project Overview

The Fit for the Future Healthcare Programme is a new collaboration with the NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement, RCGP Centre for Commissioning and The Centre for Sustainable Healthcare to help GP Consortia commission sustainable models of care. NHS Sustainable Development Unit highlights this as a major stepping stone towards a sustainable healthcare system in its Route Map for Sustainable Health.

The Fit for the Future Healthcare Programme wants to find sensible yet radical responses to health budget cuts that shift healthcare onto a more sustainable footing. NHS reforms put forward a mandate for re-thinking the design of clinical services, as well as tweaking existing ones. Dramatic resource cuts require brand new approaches to carry on improving health and quality of care, with less money. Sustainability offers a set of principles that can help decision-makers to increase value for patients and communities and optimise their use of all resources.
