The Framework unites best practice and guidance under a single umbrella to prompt planners, developers and other key decision-makers to consider the wide-ranging sustainability issues that are relevant at the scale of an urban extension, from strategic decisions on location and urban form, to the visioning process right through to the detailed design stage.
The Framework is based on seven key principles with corresponding objectives and targets/indicators. It also includes a knowledge base that provides users with further information about each of the principles and where possible, case studies of good practice that show how these principles have been applied.
Forum for the Future will be piloting and further developing the Framework during 2008. When the Framework is finally rolled out, SWRDA will make all Agency investment in new urban extensions conditional upon adoption of the Framework and meeting the targets and indicators associated with each of its principles.
