Corporate Engagement Guidelines

Forum for the Future uses these guidelines to steer our deliberations about which companies we will work with, and to enable us to monitor the integrity and effectiveness of our partnerships on an ongoing basis.  They are intended to be as inclusive as possible, (our aim being to engage with a wide array of companies, some of which will inevitably fall a long way short of operating on a genuinely sustainable basis at the moment), whilst bringing some real rigour to bear on our company recruitment and ongoing evaluation processes.

Forum for the Future works with companies:

  • Whose core business is capable of being pursued on a truly sustainable basis.
  • That, over time, can publicly demonstrate a consistent commitment to the continuous improvement of their environmental and social performance, including elements of sectoral leadership.
  • That have agreed to work with the Forum on a genuine partnership basis, and with the active approval and continued commitment of the company at senior management level.
  • That are unlikely to behave in such a way as to jeopardise the reputation of Forum for the Future, or diminish the effectiveness of its core activities.
  • That are keen to learn about good practice and to share their learning with others.

Monitoring and evaluation

For its part, Forum for the Future will:

  • Monitor compliance with these Guidelines on an ongoing basis.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of each partnership, through a two-way review process on the anniversary of the original agreement.
  • Disengage from partnerships with companies which are no longer able to behave in a manner which conforms with these Guidelines.
  • Disseminate learning from its partnerships in such a way that inspires change within and beyond the sector.
