Since 1996 our Masters in Leadership for Sustainable Development has been training the sustainability leaders of the future. Many of our 200+ graduates are making their mark in industry, through their own start-up businesses, as think-tank directors and government advisers.
What is on the mind of Forum’s young leaders for sustainability as they embark on their careers? What are their ambitions and what are they taking with them from their intensive 10.5 month course with Forum and work placements with Forum’s partner organisations?
Watch and listen to some of our graduates as they talk candidly about their experiences and reflect on the highlights of their time on the Masters programme in this short film:
On average 90% of our masters students have secured sustainability jobs within three months of graduating.
"The placements were what really attracted me to the course at the outset, providing a virtually unique opportunity to gain experience across a variety of sectors, and perhaps even to find somewhere where I might really like to work. It transpired that the opportunity these placements represented was far greater than I had ever anticipated and most of them actually gave me incredible insights into the meaning of both sustainable development and good leadership, beginning to help me understand what my place in the 'world of work' might be." - Lizzie Filkin, 2009-10 (now Sustainability Consultant at Jones Lang LaSalle where she was on placement).
"As a work-based training programme, this Masters allowed me to develop personally as well as professionally through placements, academic literature, through experiences at the Leadership Trust and conversations I had with scholars and other people in my life." - Wilma Raabe, 2011-12
"The placements have provided me with the opportunity to push beyond my comfort zone and practice new skills. All of my placements have been rewarding in very different ways and there was not one placement that I did not enjoy or feel that I didn’t gain anything from." - Hannah Greenaway, 2010-11

At the heart of the 10.5 month programme is the link between learning about the concept and practice of sustainability and applying those ideas in the real world. Students take up work placements in a variety of sectors. They also get the opportunity to undertake two tailor-made modules on leadership development at the highly acclaimed Leadership Trust.
