A low-carbon vision for the West Midlands in 2020

April 2009

A low-carbon vison for the West Midlands in 2020 is an aspirational look at how the region might operate in the future, taking into account factors like energy supply and how we will live, work and travel.

In this 2020 world, vertical urban farms provide much of the local fruit and veg; clubbers generate energy with their movements on a responsive dance floor; and bio-digesters are more common than old-style power plants.

Products like wind turbines and fuel cells have enabled the region to meet its carbon emissions targets, even with a growth in manufacturing, and low-carbon technology businesses are renowned. Transport is much improved – suburbs have their own bike and electric car-sharing schemes – and many people live in zero-carbon or refurbished homes.

Is this a vision that you share?
