Our internship programme

We run a rolling internship programme at Green Futures, offering two committed, talented individuals the chance to work alongside the team for a period of three months – a valuable insight into the world of publishing. The pace is quick, and there’s the opportunity to get involved in a whole host of tasks to make the magazine a reality, including:

  • Production support (proofreading, picture chasing)
  • Updating the Green Futures website
  • Research on specific forthcoming feature articles
  • Researching and writing short briefings
  • Support to expand Green Futures’ readership

We receive positive feedback from interns on their experience of working with us, and many go on to find employment in the publishing, communications and sustainability sectors. You’ll find them now in jobs ranging from Strategy Analyst at The Carbon Trust, to Environmental Consultant at Scott Wilson; Communications Officer for the emergencies division of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in Bujumbura, Burundi, to trainee reporter at International Business Times.

"At Green Futures, you don't just get to research fascinating solutions-focused environmental stories. Nor do you just get the chance to see your name in print, or even to advance a good cause. What you really get is time with a group of passionate people who will inspire you to change the world."

Michael Ashcroft, Strategy Analyst, The Carbon Trust

“My internship at GF has given me some key skills I have used to build the communications activities at FAO, without which my contract would probably not have been renewed for another six months. Not to mention the pleasure of working in an environment such as Forum which is unparalleled!”

James Belgrave, Communications Officer for the emergencies division of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in Bujumbura, Burundi

My new job is, “an opportunity that wouldn't have happened at all were it not for my internship at Green Futures, so thank you for the experience!”

Gordon Macrae, trainee reporter for IB Times

“It's impossible to over-state how important my internship has been in my development… It instilled in me a confidence in my ability to operate in a professional environment – something that you can't learn from a book or a lecture. I was asked to contribute to things that were real and valued.”

Sam Jones, Assistant Environmental Consultant, Scott Wilson

"Interning at Green Futures is a great experience and undoubtedly helped me gain my current position. Through my work there I was able to demonstrate my writing and researching ability, as well as a clear interest and commitment to the environmental sector. It was mind-opening and inspirational to work alongside not only the talented GF team, but staff at Forum for the Future. It is a great opportunity to learn a variety of new skills in a supportive and welcoming environment."

Emily Braham, Marketing and Communications Officer, Thames21
