Ecology Building Society is a financial institution with a difference: it aims to build a greener society by lending on sustainable properties and projects, funded through transparent, ethical savings accounts. Established in 1981, the Society today manages assets of over £100m and represents over 8,000 members. It has led the way in providing ‘green mortgages’ to help individuals and communities adopt environmental building practices, improve the energy efficiency of their homes, and live or work in a way that promotes a sustainable economy. Ecology is outspoken about the need to reform financial services so that they put people and the planet first, and to refocus our economic system on sustainability and wellbeing. The Society has joined the Forum for the Future Network to build partnerships, share learning and advocate for change with other leading sustainable organisations.
