Article from the NY Times about a number of class-action climate lawsuits that are making their way through the US legal system. A Swiss Re report is quoted stating that “climate change-related liability will develop more quickly than asbestos-related claims.”
And if it all seems a bit of a stretch just now then Michael Gerrard, a professor at Columbia University law school, notes that the first efforts to sue tobacco companies had appeared to be weak as well: “They lost the first cases; they kept on trying new theories, and eventually won big.”
