Dr James Taplin, Principal Sustainability Advisor
Role: James works in many sectors across the Forum Business Program providing analysis and advice as to the environmental impact of organisations (particularly in terms of emitted carbon), the costs of unsustainability, and the opportunities for improvement. Ilka Weissbrod, Senior Sustainability Advisor - Innovation
Role: Ilka specialises in helping businesses to embed sustainability in their product/service development and what this means for strategy.
Background: A real mixture of hands-on, policy and business response to sustainability challenges! A three-year vocational training as waste manager in Germany saw Ilka wielding spanners in recycling plants, running consumer-facing sites and, at its most glamorous, [wo]manning the back of a garbage truck. In a rather more beautiful setting, she also worked on the fields of an organic farm in Kent. The writing of the MSc thesis whilst interning with the United Nations Environment Programme (Division of Technology, Industry and Economics) gave Ilka a genuine insight in the policy arena. Finally, producing key performance indicators for a UK civil engineering company provided the opportunity to experience first-hand how strategy is embedded in business and what barriers can hinder progress. Since joining Forum for the Future in 2006, Ilka developed content and project managed a number of large change strategy projects; many firmly anchored in the belief that innovation is key to address sustainability challenges. She is also a trained and experienced facilitator.
Education: MSc Environmental Technology from Imperial College London (specialised in climate change); BSc (Hons) Business & Environment from Imperial College Wye
