For senior leaders and management teams who want to transform their organisations to achieve sustainability and success
Many organisations now have a good understanding of the sustainability challenges they face. The next step is to respond to them effectively – to manage the risks, be they to public services or the bottom line, and to create opportunities for better products and services.
To capitalise on sustainability in an organisation (and to embed it) you need strong leadership – not just at the top – but at all levels. The best way to get managers to take this agenda on and deliver it efficiently in their key decisions is to look at it in the context of their immediate work and the challenges that they face.
The Forum 3D organisational leaders programme offers a learning journey for leaders and/or high potential individuals such as advocates and champions. It uses our combination of knowledge, reflection, practical action and collaboration to really embed sustainability and ensure positive outcomes for the organisation.
Taking an approach that is a ‘journey’ is really important as it allows people to build their knowledge in sessions and workshops, and then crucially take that learning and make something happen in their team. They then come back together as a group to reinforce this learning and share it across the whole organisation.
The programme encourages innovative ways of applying the principles of sustainability by combining working sessions with individual experimentation back in the office and collaborative working. It aims to make sustainability a way of life for the individuals and the organisation and is a powerful process for leaders in a range of roles.
Leading the agenda in Wales: the Welsh Assembly learning journey The Welsh Assembly has set itself the goal of making sustainable development its central organising principle. Its first step was to embed sustainability principles into decision making tools – from policy through to operations. We helped them to do that by tailoring the Forum Sustainability Standard.
But as a pioneer the Welsh Assembly Government quickly realised that tools and frameworks can only deliver so much. Advocacy and individual leadership is needed throughout the organisation to accelerate the impact of sustainability. And our learning journey is doing just that.
We helped the SD advocates create the necessary change across the organisation. We helped them use our Sustainability Standard and pilot innovative approaches to structural and cultural change designed to improve performance within all departments.
